The Pride of the Oil Patch is headed to Area! This past Saturday, on crisp fall morning at Lowrey Field, the Roughneck Band delivered a solid performance at the UIL Region Marching Contest and received first divisions from all three judges. We are proud of this group and look forward to another week of improvement!
Our Rookie of the Week was Racheal Rivera, an 8th grade clarinet player in the stand and synthesizer player in the show! Racheal had never played a keyboard instrument before this year, and just listen to her go! The Section of the Week was the Color Guard.! Several changes and additions were made to their show routine this week, and they handled them with hard work and great attitudes during rehearsals! Our Outstanding Leader was Brooklyn Keesler. Brooklyn is a section leader in the Horn section, and because of her fantastic leadership, this young and inexperienced group of students is sounding mature and providing a beautiful color to our band sound! And finally, our Pumpjack Award went to Easton Smith, a senior clarinet section leader. Easton has also taken on the added responsibility of providing narration during our show, which you got to hear if you were at the game on Friday night! His microphone wasn't working on Saturday, but we'll get that fixed this week. Easton has been fantastic in leading clarinet sectionals during rehearsal, and his deliverance of narration is going to be a very effective addition to us being able to "tell our story" in the show! Congratulations to Racheal, Brooklyn, Easton, and the Color Guard! Check out our Facebook page and Sundown social media for Area Marching Contest info as it becomes available. We expect to learn our performance time on Tuesday and will communicate that, as well as other details you need to know. SHOUT OUT This week's shout out goes to our Drum Majors! Danny, Ericka, and Emily are three of the most dependable and hard-working young ladies you will ever meet. Their enthusiasm is contagious! They care so much for one another and for their team, and they go out of their way to encourage others, offer correction, and provide top-notch conducting for their band. We are blessed to have our Drum Majors! Thanks to all who came out to support the band this weekend. Stay tuned to student emails for itinerary information for next week, and we hope to see you in the stands this coming weekend! #sailyourvessel

It was a great week for the Roughneck Band! We had a highly productive Tuesday Night rehearsal/clinic with THE Mr. Glaze, and the band once again did a fantastic job of showing up to rehearsals ready to work! What a fun game to watch on Friday as our Roughneck got the win over Floydada, and our Roughneck Band had their best performance of the year so far just before the wind got up and it turned COLD!
Our Rookie of the Week was Kadyn Belew, an 8th grade xylophone player who is playing the spots off the page! Kadyn always comes to rehearsal with a great attitude and already exhibits leadership qualities that will flourish during her years in the Roughneck Band! The Section of the Week was the horn section -- WOW, what a week of improvement for them! After graduating 3 seniors from last year's section, this group had their work cut out for them...and they are doing a fantastic job! Our Outstanding Leader was Makenzie Mulloy, who owns a couple of flute solos in the show! She not aonly takes care of her own part, but her flute section has the best flute angles you will see, and they look to Makenzie for guidance on a daily basis. And finally, our Pumpjack Award went to Katy Townsend, our senior quads player who is the glue that holds it all together in several places in the show! Katy not only shows up to extra sectionals with the battery percussion, but also spends time on her own in a practice room to be sure she fulfills her role to her team. Congratulations to Kadyn, Makenzie, Katy, and the horn section! On Saturday, the band took the show to competition for the first time this season as we traveled to Lowrey Field in Lubbock for the Westerner Marching Festival. These students had an outstanding performance, winning "Best in Class" for 2A bands and ranking 4th overall out of 42 bands (1A through 6A)! We're looking forward to one more week of attention to detail, and then we do this "for real" as we enter into our version of the playoffs....beginning with the UIL Region 16 Marching Contest on Saturday, October 14th! SHOUT OUT This week's shout out goes to the soloists in our show. These students must have ice in their veins each week as they perform alone in front of hundreds of people, and now that we're in October, in front of judges! Makenzie, Emily, and Daniel are absolutely rocking it and received much praise from the judges at the Westerner Marching Festival. We appreciate their willingess to take on such a responsibility and the work they've put in to make it such a wonderful part of our show! Thanks to all who came out to support the band this weekend.
