It was a great week for the Roughneck Band! We had a highly productive Tuesday Night rehearsal/clinic with THE Mr. Glaze, and the band once again did a fantastic job of showing up to rehearsals ready to work! What a fun game to watch on Friday as our Roughneck got the win over Floydada, and our Roughneck Band had their best performance of the year so far just before the wind got up and it turned COLD!
Our Rookie of the Week was Kadyn Belew, an 8th grade xylophone player who is playing the spots off the page! Kadyn always comes to rehearsal with a great attitude and already exhibits leadership qualities that will flourish during her years in the Roughneck Band! The Section of the Week was the horn section -- WOW, what a week of improvement for them! After graduating 3 seniors from last year's section, this group had their work cut out for them...and they are doing a fantastic job! Our Outstanding Leader was Makenzie Mulloy, who owns a couple of flute solos in the show! She not aonly takes care of her own part, but her flute section has the best flute angles you will see, and they look to Makenzie for guidance on a daily basis. And finally, our Pumpjack Award went to Katy Townsend, our senior quads player who is the glue that holds it all together in several places in the show! Katy not only shows up to extra sectionals with the battery percussion, but also spends time on her own in a practice room to be sure she fulfills her role to her team. Congratulations to Kadyn, Makenzie, Katy, and the horn section! On Saturday, the band took the show to competition for the first time this season as we traveled to Lowrey Field in Lubbock for the Westerner Marching Festival. These students had an outstanding performance, winning "Best in Class" for 2A bands and ranking 4th overall out of 42 bands (1A through 6A)! We're looking forward to one more week of attention to detail, and then we do this "for real" as we enter into our version of the playoffs....beginning with the UIL Region 16 Marching Contest on Saturday, October 14th! SHOUT OUT This week's shout out goes to the soloists in our show. These students must have ice in their veins each week as they perform alone in front of hundreds of people, and now that we're in October, in front of judges! Makenzie, Emily, and Daniel are absolutely rocking it and received much praise from the judges at the Westerner Marching Festival. We appreciate their willingess to take on such a responsibility and the work they've put in to make it such a wonderful part of our show! Thanks to all who came out to support the band this weekend. Stay tuned to student emails for itinerary information for next week, and CLICK HERE to purchase your tickets to see the Roughneck Band at the UIL Region 16 Marching Contest on Saturday, October 14th! #sailyourvessel
